Dubravka Ugrešić (1949–2023) was a Croatian writer, essayist, publicist, and translator of Russian literature. She was also a historian of Russian literary theory and worked across various artistic fields during her career.
Biography
Dubravka Ugrešić was born on March 27, 1949, in Kutina. She was known as a Croatian writer, essayist, publicist, and translator of Russian literature. Additionally, she was a historian of Russian literary theory, specifically OPOYAZ. Throughout her life, she was connected with various national and cultural communities, including the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Croatia, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. In her professional work, Dubravka engaged in literary criticism, translations, prose and essay writing, and university teaching. She also worked as a figure in the arts and the visual arts. Moreover, Dubravka took roles as a screenwriter and an author of non-fiction literature. She passed away on March 17, 2023, in Amsterdam, where she had lived in the final years of her life.
