Dr. Atl was the pseudonym of Gerardo Murillo, a Mexican writer, artist, volcanologist, and philosopher. Born in Guadalajara in 1875, he created over 11,000 drawings and 1,000 oil landscapes, notably documenting the Parícutin volcano. He died in Mexico City in 1964.

Dr. Atl was the pseudonym of Gerardo Murillo, a Mexican artist, writer, volcanologist, philosopher, and art historian. He was born on October 3, 1875, in Guadalajara. Throughout his life, he was actively involved in artistic creation and scientific research, particularly focusing on the study of the Parícutin volcano. Dr. Atl purchased the land where this volcano emerged and documented its development through more than 11,000 drawings and 1,000 oil landscape paintings. He was part of the Mexican cultural tradition and dedicated a significant portion of his work to landscape painting. He passed away on August 15, 1964, in Mexico City. His works and research contributed to the study of volcanoes and the development of the arts in Mexico.
