Dele Jegede
Dele Jegede, born April 19, 1945, in Ekiti, Nigeria, is a Nigerian-American artist, art historian, and educator. He was a senior postdoctoral fellow at the Smithsonian Institution in 1995 and has held various academic and curatorial roles.
Biography
Dele Jegede was born on April 19, 1945, in Ekiti, Nigeria. He is a Nigerian-American artist and art historian known also as a cartoonist, curator, art critic, administrator, and educator. In 1995, he was a senior postdoctoral fellow at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. From 1987 to 1988, he taught at Spelman College in Atlanta as a Fulbright visiting scholar and curated the exhibition "Art By Metamorphosis." Jegede served as professor and head of the art department at Indiana State University, Terre Haute, from 2002 to 2005, and then as an art professor at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, from 2005 until 2010. In May 2015, he retired with the honorary title of professor emeritus. Currently, he is the chairman of the board of the Cartoonists Association of Nigeria (CARTAN).
