Corneliu Baba
Corneliu Baba (1906–1997) was a Romanian painter, graphic artist, book illustrator, and university professor. Named People's Artist of Romania in 1962, he was a member of the Romanian Academy and the German Academy of Arts, as well as an honorary member of the USSR Academy of Arts.
Biography
Corneliu Baba was born on November 18, 1906, in Craiova, Romania. He was a painter, graphic artist, book illustrator, and university lecturer. In 1962, Baba was awarded the title of People's Artist of Romania. The following year, in 1963, he became a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, advancing to full academic membership in 1990. Additionally, Baba was a member of the German Academy of Arts and had been an honorary member of the USSR Academy of Arts since 1958. His body of work spans portraiture and genre painting, incorporating artistic movements such as Expressionism, Impressionism, Socialist Realism, and involvement with the Salonul Oficial. Corneliu Baba passed away on December 28, 1997, in Bucharest.
