Biography

Constantin Daniel Rosenthal was born in 1820 in Pest. He was a Romanian-Hungarian painter, sculptor, and revolutionary. Rosenthal is recognized as one of the founders of Romanian secular painting and a representative of Romanian Romantic nationalism. His artistic work focused primarily on portraiture and he was associated with the Romantic movement. Throughout his life, Rosenthal maintained cultural ties with the Austrian Empire and Wallachia. He died on July 23, 1851, in Pest, the city of his birth.
