Biography
Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro was born on November 21, 1857, in Lisbon. He was a Portuguese artist, portraitist, and vexillologist, recognized as the foremost representative of Realism in 19th-century Portuguese painting. Portraiture occupied a significant place in his artistic work, with many portraits depicting notable contemporaries. In addition to his artistic career, Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro was a member of the commission that designed the modern flag of Portugal. He made a substantial contribution to Portuguese culture and arts during the royal period. The artist passed away on November 6, 1929, in Lisbon.
