Colin McCahon
Colin McCahon (1919–1987) was a New Zealand artist whose 45-year career encompassed landscape, figurative art, abstraction, and text overlay. In the mid-20th century, he contributed to introducing modernism in New Zealand art alongside Toss Woollaston and Rita Angus.
Biography
Colin McCahon was born on August 1, 1919, in Timaru, New Zealand. Over the course of his 45-year artistic career, he worked in a variety of styles including landscape, figurative art, abstraction, and the overlay of hand-painted text. Together with artists Toss Woollaston and Rita Angus, McCahon made a significant contribution to the introduction of modernism into New Zealand art during the mid-20th century. He is regarded as one of the most important representatives of contemporary New Zealand art, particularly in the field of landscape genre. Colin McCahon passed away on May 27, 1987, in Auckland.
