Biography

Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg was born on January 2, 1783, in Blåkrog. He was a Danish painter and pedagogue, recognized as the founder of the Danish Golden Age of painting. His work was closely linked to the landscape genre. Throughout his life, Eckersberg worked and taught within the Kingdom of Denmark, significantly influencing the development of national art. Among his notable works are "View through Three Northwest Arches of the Third Tier of the Colosseum," "Familien Nathanson," "Russian Ship-of-the-Line Azov and a Frigate at Elsinore Roadstead," "Self-Portrait," "At a Window in the Artist's Studio," "Bella and Hanna. The Eldest Daughters of M. L. Nathanson," "Woman before a Mirror," "Portrait of the Model Maddalena or Anna Maria Uhden," and "Portrait of Bertel Thorvaldsen." Eckersberg passed away on July 22, 1853, in Copenhagen. He was part of the cultural and artistic movement known as the Danish Golden Age and maintained strong ties to the Kingdom of Denmark.
