Christina, Queen of Sweden
Christina Augusta (1626–1689) was Queen of Sweden from 1632 to 1654, the last of the House of Vasa on the Swedish throne and daughter of Gustav II Adolf. Born in Stockholm, she was a patron and collector of the arts.
Biography
Christina Augusta was born on December 18, 1626, in Stockholm, at the Tre Kronor Castle. She became Queen of Sweden in 1632 and ruled until 1654. Christina was the last representative of the House of Vasa on the Swedish throne and the daughter of Gustav II Adolf. During her reign, she became known as an outstanding patron of the arts and one of the most educated women of her time. Christina was also an art collector, artist, writer, and philosopher. After abdicating the throne, she moved to Rome, where she died on April 19, 1689.
