He has held key academic leadership roles and serves as a guest professor and lifelong advisor in Chinese art institutions.
Biography
Cheng Haw-Chien was born on May 4, 1948, in Penang, Malaysia. From an early age, he studied Chinese brush painting alongside Western artistic forms. He later pursued further education in Taiwan and Hong Kong, refining his skills under the guidance of masters. He specializes in the Lingnan style, which integrates Western and Japanese realism elements with Chinese ink on rice paper. Between 1983 and 1995, Cheng served as director of the Central Academy of Arts and president of the Central Research Academy of Arts. Currently, he is a guest professor at several universities in China, including Renmin University, Ningbo University, Changshu Institute of Technology, and Handan College. Additionally, he functions as a lifelong advisor to the Ningbo Art Museum. His professional activities encompass painting, writing, and the arts.
