Lieutenant Colonel Charles Collier Michell, later known as Charles Cornwallis Michell, was born on March 29, 1793, in Exeter. He was a British military officer and became the first surveyor-general in the Cape of Good Hope region. Beyond his military career, Michell engaged in road engineering projects, architecture, painting, and natural history studies. His varied professional roles included those of a surveyor-engineer, civil engineer, architect, artist, and figure in the arts. Michell maintained cultural and national connections with the South African Republic. He passed away on March 28, 1851, in Eltham.
