Carlos Mérida was born on December 2, 1891, in Guatemala. He was a Guatemalan-Mexican artist specializing in painting, lithography, sculpture, and illustration. Mérida distinguished himself as a graphic artist and engraver as well as an art figure. He is recognized as a notable representative of Mexican muralism and was connected to the Cubism movement.
