Carlos Cruz-Diez
Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923–2019) was a Venezuelan-French artist known for his work in kinetic art. He was born in Caracas and lived in Paris from 1960 onward. He studied color as an independent reality evolving in time and space.
Biography
Carlos Cruz-Diez was born on August 17, 1923, in Caracas. He was a Venezuelan-French artist, sculptor, serigraphist, designer, and figure in the visual arts. In 1960, he moved to Paris, where he lived and created until his death on July 27, 2019. Cruz-Diez was one of the key representatives of optical art, abstractionism, and kinetic art. He introduced the concept of color as an autonomous reality that evolves in time and space, independent of form or support. His creative work encompassed eight areas of color research: Additive Color, Physichromie, Chromatic Induction, Chromointerference, Transchromie, Chromosaturation, Chromoscope, and Color in Space.
