Bishandas

Biography

Bishandas (1600–1700) was an Indian artist, miniaturist, and manuscript illuminator working during the Mughal Empire era. His name is closely associated with the reign of Emperor Jahangir (1569–1627), at whose court Bishandas specialized in portrait painting. Although information about his life is limited, he is believed to have belonged to the Hindu community, like several other artists of the imperial workshop. His artistic legacy reflects the characteristics and traditions of the Mughal Empire's culture, evident in his masterful work with miniatures and manuscript ornamentation. Bishandas left a significant mark in the history of 17th-century Indian art as a representative of one of the important artistic movements of his time.
