Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), born December 5, 1927, was King of Thailand from 1946 to 2016. A member of the Chakri dynasty, he was also an expressionist artist and composed jazz and blues music including works like "H.M. Blues" and "Royal Marines March."
Biography
Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, was born on December 5, 1927, at Mount Auburn Hospital. He served as the King of Thailand from 1946 until 2016, representing the Chakri dynasty. Throughout his life, he was engaged in many professions: statesman, monarch, engineer, officer, composer, jazz musician, saxophonist, artist, writer, photographer, teacher, yachtsman, environmentalist, and social worker. Culturally, he belonged to Thailand and chose Expressionism as his artistic direction. Bhumibol Adulyadej is known for creating musical compositions in the jazz and blues genres, including such pieces as "H.M. Blues," "Royal Marines March," "The Impossible Dream," "Fight!," "Mahā Janaka," "Love at Sundown," "Near Dawn," "New Year Greeting," "Royal Guards March," and "Smiles (Song)." His coronation name was Prabat Somdet Phra Paramindra Maha Bumipon Adulyadet Mahitaladhibet Ramahibodi Chakrinarubodin Sayamindradhiraj Boromanatbophit. He was honored by the people with the title "The Great." Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away on October 13, 2016, at Siriraj Hospital.
