Biography

Helen Beatrix Potter, known as Beatrix Potter, was born on July 28, 1866, in South Kensington, United Kingdom. She was an English children’s writer, artist, as well as a mycologist and botanist. She combined art with science in her work, acting as an illustrator and artist-illustrator for scientific publications. Her main genre was fairy tales. Throughout her career, she created many well-known works including The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, The Tale of Tom Kitten, The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck, among others. Her creative activity was closely connected to the United Kingdom, where she lived and worked. Beatrix was also an eco-activist and an active figure in the arts. She died on December 22, 1943, near the village of Near Sawrey. Her works remain an important part of English-language children’s literature and illustration.
