Beatrix of the Netherlands, born January 31, 1938 in Soestdijk, was Queen of the Netherlands from 1980 to 2013. After abdicating in favor of her son, Willem-Alexander, she resumed the title of princess. She was also a sculptor, illustrator, and doll designer.
Biography
Beatrix of the Netherlands, a princess of the House of Orange, was born on January 31, 1938, in the city of Soestdijk. She reigned as Queen of the Netherlands from April 30, 1980, until April 30, 2013. Her reign marked the third consecutive female monarchy in the kingdom’s history since 1890. Beatrix ascended to the throne following the abdication of her mother, Queen Juliana. In 2013, she herself abdicated the throne in favor of her son, Prince Willem-Alexander, after which she resumed the title of Princess of the Netherlands. Beyond her royal duties, Beatrix was also engaged as a sculptor, illustrator, and doll designer. She held Dutch citizenship throughout her life.
