Biography

Baroness Emma Orczy, also known as Emmuska Orczy, was born on September 23, 1865, in Tarnaörs. She was a British novelist of Hungarian origin, renowned for her famous novel "The Scarlet Pimpernel." In addition to novels, Orczy was a playwright, artist, and translator. In her work, she created the first female detective as the main character—Lady Molly of Scotland Yard. Besides "The Scarlet Pimpernel," her notable works include "Sir Percy Leads the Band" and "Revenge and Love." Emma Orczy was not only a novelist but also a children's writer, short story author, and a crime fiction writer. She died on November 12, 1947, in Henley-on-Thames. Her cultural and national ties connected both Great Britain and Hungary.
