Balthazar Klossowski de Rola, known as Balthus, was born on February 29, 1908, in Paris. He was a French artist of Polish descent. In his creative work, Balthus engaged in painting and was also recognized as a draftsman, artist, stage designer, illustrator, and photographer. The primary genres of his works included portrait, still life, and landscape. His artistic activity was connected with the movements of surrealism and New Objectivity. Balthus was the younger brother of Pierre Klossowski. He passed away on February 18, 2001, in Rossinière.
