Ataa Oko was born in 1919 in Ghana. Throughout his life, he was active in the arts as both an artist and sculptor. His creative legacy primarily includes the creation of figurative palanquins and coffins. Beginning at more than 80 years old, Ataa Oko practiced painting in the Art Brut style. His work forms part of Ghana's cultural heritage. He passed away on December 9, 2012, in Accra, the capital city of Ghana.
