Biography
Artemisia Gentileschi was born on July 8, 1593, in Rome, in the Papal States. She was an Italian Baroque painter known for her skill in religious, historical, and mythological painting, as well as portraiture. Artemisia was associated with the Caravaggist movement. Over the course of her career, she became the first woman admitted to the Academy of Drawing in Florence. Her notable works include "Judith Beheading Holofernes," "Adoration of the Magi," "Self-Portrait as a Martyr," "Susanna and the Elders," "Allegory of Inclination (Natural Talent) to Art," and "Judith and Her Maidservant." Artemisia Gentileschi died in 1653 in Naples.
