Biography

Antonio Berni (full name Delesio Antonio Berni) was born on May 14, 1905, in Rosario, Argentina. He was an Argentine artist, engraver, sculptor, monumental artist, and figure in the visual arts, associated with the artistic direction of social realism and the Latin American branch of "New Realism." Berni worked in the genres of portrait painting and figurativism. Among his most well-known works is the collage series titled "Juanito Laguna," in which he depicted poverty and the consequences of industrialization in Buenos Aires, reflecting social problems of the time. The artist died on October 13, 1981, in Buenos Aires, leaving a significant contribution to Latin American art and socially oriented painting.
