Anton Losenko

Biography

Anton Pavlovich Losenko was born on August 10, 1737, in the town of Glukhov in the Russian Empire. He became a renowned Russian painter, draftsman, and educator. Losenko was a central figure of the classicist school in the second half of the 18th century and the founder of the tradition of historical painting in Russia. In his creative work, he specialized in portraits and historical subjects. A significant milestone in his career was being named an academician and professor at the Imperial Academy of Arts, where he also served as director. One of the artist's most famous works is the painting "The Farewell of Hector and Andromache." He died on December 4, 1773, in Saint Petersburg, leaving a notable mark on the development of Russian classicist art.
