Anna Chromy
Anna Chromy (1940–2021) was a Czech painter, sculptor, and graphic artist associated with surrealism. She was the first woman to receive the Michelangelo Prize for sculptors in Italy in 2008.
Biography
Anna Chromy was born on July 18, 1940, in the city of Český Krumlov, located in Czechoslovakia. She became known for her work in painting, graphic arts, and sculpture. Her artistic style is recognized as part of surrealism. In 2008, Anna Chromy became the first woman to be awarded the Michelangelo Prize, an annual accolade given to sculptors in Italy. Among her notable works is the sculpture titled Cloak of Conscience. She maintained strong national and cultural ties to Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic throughout her life. Anna Chromy passed away on September 18, 2021, in Monaco.
