Anita Magsaysay-Ho
Anita Magsaysay-Ho (1914–2012) was a Filipino painter known for social realism and post-cubism, focusing on women in Philippine culture. She was the only female member of the 'Thirteen Moderns' group and was recognized as one of the six leading Filipino painters in 1958.
Biography
Anita Magsaysay-Ho was born on May 25, 1914, in Manila, Philippines. She became a prominent Filipino artist specializing in social realist and post-cubist painting genres, with thematic emphasis on women in her country's culture. The artist pursued modernism, favoring more abstract forms and styles over realistic approaches. Anita Magsaysay-Ho was the only woman in the group known as the 'Thirteen Moderns,' a permanent association of Filipino modernist painters. In 1958, she was recognized by an expert jury as one of the six leading Filipino painters in the country's history. Her most well-known works are dedicated to the beauty of Filipino women and their everyday experiences. Collections of her works are preserved in museums throughout the Philippines. Anita Magsaysay-Ho passed away on May 5, 2012, in Manila.
