André Franquin
André Franquin (1924–1997) was a Belgian comic artist and writer known for his humorous comics. Associated with the Marcinelle school, he created series such as Gaston and Marsupilami and contributed to Spirou et Fantasio.
Biography
André Franquin was born on January 3, 1924, in Etterbeek, Belgium. He was a comic artist, writer, and illustrator working primarily in the genre of humorous comics. Franquin was associated with the Marcinelle school, an influential Belgian artistic movement. Throughout his career, he created comics that became classics in the field, notably the series featuring characters such as Gaston and Marsupilami. He also worked on Spirou et Fantasio for the magazine Le Journal de Spirou. Other notable works by André Franquin include Modeste et Pompon and Idées noires. He passed away on January 5, 1997, in Saint-Laurent-du-Var. Franquin is regarded as an important figure in the history of Belgian comics and as an artist in the realm of graphic storytelling.
