Amintore Fanfani

Biography

Amintore Fanfani was born on February 6, 1908, in Pieve Santo Stefano, Italy. He was an Italian politician who served as interim President of Italy in 1978 and held the position of Prime Minister on multiple occasions. Fanfani also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Interior, representing the Christian Democratic Party and belonging to its center-left wing. He was one of the dominant figures in 20th-century Italian politics. Alongside Giovanni Giolitti, Fanfani is among the few Italian prime ministers who served five non-consecutive terms. Beyond his political career, he was also a diplomat, economist, university professor, teacher, and artist. Toward the end of his life, Amintore Fanfani served as the President of the United Nations General Assembly. He died on November 20, 1999, in Rome, Italy.
