Almada Negreiros
José Sobral de Almada Negreiros (1893–1970) was a Portuguese artist, writer, poet, and cultural figure. A representative of Futurism and the first generation of Modernism in Portugal, he was a Grand Officer of the Order of Santiago.
Biography
José Sobral de Almada Negreiros was born on April 7, 1893, in São Tomé. He was a Portuguese artist, writer, Futurist poet, playwright, graphic designer, actor, and a figure in the visual arts. Almada Negreiros belonged to the first generation of Modernism in Portuguese art, especially in painting and literature in the first half of the 20th century. His creative work was associated with the Futurist movement. He was a Grand Officer of the Order of Santiago. Almada Negreiros passed away on June 15, 1970, in Lisbon.
