Biography

Alfredo Valenzuela Puelma was born on February 8, 1856, in Valparaiso, Chile. He was an outstanding painter active during the rise of the Realism movement in visual art. Valenzuela Puelma is recognized as one of the four Great Chilean Masters, a distinction that highlights his important position in the history of Chilean painting. Throughout his career, he became known as one of Chile's most renowned painters. He passed away on October 27, 1909, in the French city of Villejuif. The artist’s work reflects the cultural characteristics of his homeland, Chile, and has left a notable mark on the country's national realistic art tradition.
