Alexey Venetsianov

Biography

Alexey Gavrilovich Venetsianov was born on February 7, 1780, in Moscow. He became one of the most significant Russian painters and graphic artists of the Alexandrian and Nicholas eras, dedicating his work to portraying peasant life in an original style combining academic classicism with a romantic worldview. Venetsianov was a mentor to a large group of students known as the Venetsianov school. His work was characterized by a commitment to portraiture and genre painting focused on folk life themes. In recognition of his contributions, he was an academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and served as a painter to the court of His Imperial Majesty. Among his notable works is the painting "Threshing Floor". Alexey Gavrilovich died on December 4, 1847, in Poddubye. His legacy reflects the cultural era of the Russian Empire and belongs to the romanticism movement.
