Biography

Alexei Kondratyevich Savrasov was born on May 12, 1830, in Moscow. He was a Russian landscape painter and art figure, working primarily within the landscape genre and adhering to Realism as an artistic movement. Savrasov was a founding member of the Peredvizhniki Society and an academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. His most famous work is the landscape "The Rooks Have Come Back," which became archetypal and iconic. Savrasov lived and died in Moscow, passing away on September 26, 1897. His activities and creative work took place within the cultural and national context of the Russian Empire.
