Alexander Roslin
Alexander Roslin (1718–1793) was a Swedish Rococo portrait painter who worked in Stockholm, Paris, Warsaw, and Saint Petersburg. He is known for his refined portraits, including works depicting his wife, Marie-Suzanne.
Biography
Alexander Roslin was born on July 15, 1718, in Malmö, Saint Petri. He was a Swedish artist specializing in portraiture and worked predominantly in the Rococo style popular in his era. Throughout his career, Roslin created artworks in several major European cities, including Stockholm, Paris, Warsaw, and Saint Petersburg. Among his notable works are 'Lady with a Veil' and the portrait of his wife, Marie-Suzanne, who was herself an artist and pastellist. Alexander Roslin passed away on July 5, 1793, in Paris. His contribution to Rococo art and portrait painting marks him as one of the most significant Swedish painters of the eighteenth century.
