Alexander Rodchenko

Biography

Alexander Mikhailovich Rodchenko was born on November 23, 1891, in Saint Petersburg. He was a prominent Russian and Soviet artist, graphic artist, poster designer, sculptor, photographer, theatrical and cinematic artist, as well as a correspondent. Rodchenko is recognized as one of the founders of Constructivism and is regarded as the originator of design and advertising in the Soviet Union. Additionally, he was among the representatives of New Vision photography. His artistic work encompassed various genres, including abstractionism, geometric abstraction, portraiture, figurative art, landscape, and genre scenes. Throughout his career, he engaged in numerous professions: artist, photographer, sculptor, graphic designer, furniture designer, theater designer, cinematographer, illustrator, fashion designer, collage artist, draftsman, typographer, architect, fine arts figure, and jewelry designer. Professionally, he collaborated closely with his wife, artist and designer Varvara Stepanova. Alexander Mikhailovich Rodchenko passed away on December 3, 1956, in Moscow.
