Alexander Archipenko

Biography

Alexander Porfirievich Archipenko was born on May 30, 1887, in Kyiv, then part of the Russian Empire. He became known as a Ukrainian and American sculptor and artist and was one of the leading representatives of Cubism in sculpture. Archipenko worked in various genres including still life, nudes, and figure studies, showing an interest in abstraction. He was also connected to movements such as Salon Cubism and Futurism. Throughout his life, Archipenko engaged in multiple artistic activities; he was not only a sculptor and painter but also worked as a graphic designer, illustrator, collage artist, photographer, designer, and architectural draftsman. Among his notable works is the sculpture "Queen of Sheba." Alexander Archipenko passed away on February 25, 1964, in New York City, USA.
