Aleksey Petrovich Antropov was born on March 14, 1716, in Saint Petersburg. He was a Russian painter and monumental decorator associated with the Elizabethan Baroque style. Antropov is recognized as one of the pioneers in Russia to produce secular portraiture, which significantly influenced the development of the Russian portrait genre. Among his notable works is the portrait of Peter III. He spent his entire life working and living in Saint Petersburg, where he died on June 12, 1795. As a representative of the Russian Empire, Antropov made a substantial contribution to the artistic culture of his era.
