Biography

Aleksandra Mitrofanovna Beļcova was born on March 17, 1892, in the town of Surazh, then part of the Russian Empire. Throughout her career, she worked in the genres of portrait, landscape, still life, graphics, and picture stories. During different stages of her life and creative work, the cultural territories to which she belonged included the Russian Empire, Latvia, and the USSR. Aleksandra Mitrofanovna was a member of the artists' associations "Riga Artists Group" and "Green Crow." In addition, she worked as an artist in the porcelain painting workshop "Baltars." Beļcova's artistic work shows the influence of Cubism and Realism. She passed away on February 1, 1981, in Riga.
