Aleksandr Deyneka
Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Deyneka (1899–1969) was a Russian Soviet artist, monumental painter, graphic artist, sculptor, and educator. Born in Kursk and died in Moscow, he worked in landscape, portrait, still life, and genre painting. He was awarded People's Artist of the USSR (1963), Lenin Prize laureate (1964), and Hero of Socialist Labour (1969).
Biography
Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Deyneka was born on May 8, 1899, in Kursk, Russian Empire. Throughout his life, he experienced and contributed to various historical periods and state formations, including the Russian Empire, RSFSR, USSR, and Russia. Deyneka was a multifaceted artist who worked as a painter, monumental artist, graphic artist, sculptor, and teacher. His artistic activity extended to illustration, poster art, photography, and university-level education. In his creative work, Deyneka explored a wide range of genres such as genre painting, landscape, portrait, and still life. His contributions to Soviet visual art earned him several prestigious state honors: in 1963, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR; in 1964, he became a laureate of the Lenin Prize; and in 1969, he received the title Hero of Socialist Labour. Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Deyneka passed away on June 12, 1969, in Moscow, leaving a significant legacy in Soviet art.
