Alberto Giacometti

Biography

Alberto Giacometti was born on October 10, 1901, in Borgonovo. He was a Swiss sculptor, painter, and graphic artist recognized as one of the major masters of the twentieth century. Throughout his creative life, Giacometti worked in various genres including figurative sculpture, genre painting, landscape, portrait, still life, and abstraction. He was connected with the surrealist art movement. Elements of animalistic painting can also be traced in Giacometti’s works. His artistic activity encompassed professions such as sculptor, painter, illustrator, writer, jewelry designer, lithographer, graphic artist, draftsman, and designer. Alberto Giacometti died on January 11, 1966, in Chur. His national affiliation was linked to both Switzerland and France. Among his notable works are the sculptures "The Nose," "Grande Femme II," "Walking Man I," and "Grande tête mince."
