Alberto Beltrán

Biography

Alberto Beltrán García was a Mexican graphic artist, illustrator, and cartoonist, born on March 22, 1923, in Mexico City. His artistic work focused primarily on illustrations and political cartoons, and later in his career, he also created murals, particularly in the Mexican state of Veracruz. During his youth, Beltrán started drawing for local publishers in the Tepito district and studied at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas. On the advice of a teacher, he became acquainted with the Taller de Gráfica Popular, which marked the beginning of his professional artistic career. From the late 1940s until his death in 2002, he collaborated with various publications, mostly newspapers, while also producing book illustrations. Despite receiving numerous awards for his work, his name remains relatively unknown even within Mexico, and his artworks are held across various collections and institutions throughout the country.
