Aina Onabolu (1882–1963) was a Nigerian artist and teacher, born in Ijebu-Ode and died in Lagos. He is regarded as the founder of professional painting in Nigeria, focusing primarily on portraiture based on European traditions.

Aina Onabolu was born on September 13, 1882, in Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria. He was an artist and teacher who is recognized as the creator and founder of professional painting in Nigeria. Onabolu’s artistic work was rooted in European painting traditions, with a primary focus on portraiture. Beyond his artistic practice, he initiated the establishment of an art education system in Nigeria, marking an important stage in the development of the country's art. Aina Onabolu passed away in 1963 in Lagos. According to Soviet art historian Nikolai Yevgrafovich Grigorovich, Onabolu is likely the first professional painter of Africa.
