Agnes Martin
Agnes Martin (1912–2004) was a Canadian-American artist known for her work in abstract expressionism, abstraction, and minimalism. Though often associated with minimalism, she identified herself with abstract expressionism.
Biography
Agnes Martin was born on March 22, 1912, in McLean. She was a Canadian-American artist, draftsman, and printmaker. Her work is frequently associated with abstraction, abstract expressionism, and minimalism. Though her pieces are commonly regarded as examples of minimalism, Martin herself identified as an abstract expressionist. Among her notable works are "With My Back to the World," "Harbor Number 1," "Red Bird," "Mountain I," and "Fiesta." Agnes Martin passed away on December 16, 2004, in Taos, United States.
