Adolph Tidemand

Biography

Adolph Tidemand was born on August 14, 1814, in Mandal, Norway. He was a Norwegian painter recognized as a representative of Romanticism and Realism. Tidemand worked across various artistic genres, including historical painting, genre painting, graphic arts, and illustration. In his creative work, he belonged to the Romantic nationalism movement that gained prominence in Norway. Among his most notable works are "The Ill Child", "Bridal Procession on the Hardangerfjord", "Low Church Devotion", and "The Wounded Bear Hunter". Tidemand's art holds an important place in 19th-century Norwegian art. He passed away on August 25, 1876, in Kristiania. His works reflect the cultural characteristics and spirit of nationalism of his time, as well as demonstrating skill across different techniques and painting and graphic genres.
