Abdulmari Imao
Abdulmari Imao (1936–2014) was a Filipino artist, sculptor, and photographer born in Siasi. In 2006, he was honored as a National Artist of the Philippines in visual arts, recognized for his contributions to Muslim Filipino art and culture.
Biography
Abdulmari Imao was born on January 14, 1936, in the city of Siasi, Philippines. He was a distinguished artist, sculptor, and photographer, as well as a researcher and writer. In 2006, Imao was named a National Artist of the Philippines in the field of visual arts, becoming the first individual from the Moro community to receive this honor. Throughout his career, he focused on the development and promotion of Muslim art and culture of the Philippines. Beyond his visual art, Abdulmari Imao was also involved in documentary work and ceramics. He passed away on December 16, 2014, in Marikina.
